Today’s pick is a 1959 Ford Galaxie turned vintage stock racecar, coming to you from Alexandria, MN. Book yourself a flight to MSP and head up I-94; if you hit Fergus Falls you’ve gone too far.
The Galaxie was introduced to the Ford full-size line-up in 1959 becoming the top of the line model over the Fairlane 500. This body style only existed for 1 year only, as the full size cars were redesigned for 1960. This particular version still sports some of the extensive chrome trim as well as both the front and rear bumpers. As a design, it was considered ostentatious even for it’s era.
Unfortunately, the listing is light on information. Who knows if it has the original 352 cu. in. Ford FE engine, or the Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. From the photos we can see that it has a full roll cage of uncertain certification, mis-matched wheels and tires, and an interior set up for racing. The numerous dent’s and scratches are a testament to it’s time on track. On the inside there is a single race seat, modifed steering wheel, a harness that is likely out-of-spec, and most of the gauges. It does have an automatic transmission with the shifter relocated from the column to the floor.
If it were added to the personal (junk)yard, I’d see what it would get it in RDS mode (Running, Driving, Stopping). If there is a title, I’d try to get it street legal as well. That will be a tall order given that the head and tail lights have been removed, and there’s no glass in the car at all. Sure would be fun to take it to a cruise-in, car show, or coffee shop. Sans title, it would be a great buy for a friend with some property. As long as they let us rip it around the field from time to time.
How about you, what would you do with it?
